Data Changes

Mental Health Providers and Other Primary Care Providers (as of March, 2017)

We recently discovered an error in our method for identifying Mental Health Providers and Other Primary Care Providers in 2014-2016: we were including organizations as well as individual providers in each county. The correct estimates of the ratios for Mental Health Providers and Other Primary Care Providers are now available on our website for 2015 and 2016 and in the downloadable data files. Unfortunately, the raw data used in the 2014 Rankings is no longer, available although when we are able to access that data, corrections will be issued. (In general, this change will have minimal impact on the Health Factors and Clinical Care ranks and so we will not recalculate the specific county rankings for 2014-2016 –the previous estimates on which the Rankings are based are still included in all data files.) Access to Exercise Opportunities (as of March, 2015)

We detected an error in our estimates of Access to Exercise Opportunities for the state of Arizona in the 2014 County Health Rankings.  Our estimates included only YMCAs as locations for exercise. As a result, we underestimated Access to Exercise Opportunities for all counties in Arizona.  We have corrected the errors. The correct estimates of the percentage with Access to Exercise Opportunities are available on our website and in the downloadable data files. The specific county rankings for 2014 will not be recalculated based on the updated data.  The previous data that the Rankings are based on is still included in all data files. You can find and download all data files here. 

Dentists and Mental Health Providers (as of July, 2014)

We found an error in the population estimates we used to calculate population to provider ratios for Dentists in 2013 and 2014 and Mental Health Providers in 2014: we were double-counting people living in group quarters in each county. The correct estimates of the ratios for Dentists and Mental Health Providers are now available on our website and in the downloadable data files. (In general, this change will have minimal impact on the Health Factors and Clinical Care ranks and so we will not recalculate the specific county rankings for 2013 and 2014-the previous estimates on which the Rankings are based are still included in all data files.) Primary Care Physicians (as of November, 2012)

We detected an error in our estimates of Primary Care Physicians. Our program was double-counting the number of General Practice Physicians. As a result, the estimate of Primary Care Physicians was incorrect. We have corrected the errors. The correct estimates of the rate of Primary Care Physicians are available on our website and in the downloadable data files. The specific county rankings for 2010 – 2012 will not be recalculated based on the updated data. The previous data that the Rankings are based on is still included in all data files. You can find and download all data files here.
